About

Hi… hello… welcome…

Let’s get to it and tell you a bit about who runs this blog and why it’s been set up.

The Playdemo blog has been set up by a not-for-profit organisation called CODIA (that’s us!), which is based in Lancashire, north west England, UK. CODIA exists to support people in Lancashire to build careers and businesses in the entertainment and creative industries. Our current focus is on music business career and enterprise development. Which leads us on to why we’ve set this blog up…

The launch of this blog is to meant to complement the forthcoming launch of Playdemo 360°. Playdemo 360° is CODIA’s all-new music industry career development initiative for young people. The aim is to help young people (living in Lancashire) to develop careers and enterprises in the music business, by providing them with support and opportunities to develop skills and gain knowledge and experience(s) relevant to the music industry.

In November 2008 we’re going to launch (pending funding) the first Playdemo 360° project, Music Biz 2008, which is going to be a one-off programme made up of workshops , seminars and aftercare mentoring for participants. The programme is going to focus on the business side of music, by taking a look at music management, A&R, music promotion, music publishing, PR and media relations, physical music distribution and retail, digital music distribution and retail, contracts and legal matters, music business enterprise and entrepreneurship and how record companies operate.

Playdemo 360° Music Biz 2008 will be open to young people aged between 16-30 years old from central Lancashire: e.g. Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. The programme’s main activities are planned to happen in Preston.

As well as providing you with information and breaking news about our plans for the Music Biz 2008 roll-out,  this blog will also feature regular posts with (hopefully) helpful information and advice about making it in the music business as an independent artist/entrepreneur.
